Homemade Flour Tortillas

So, Cinco de Mayo is this Thursday and I’m sure many of you are planning a fiesta.  What is a fiesta without great Mexican food?  What is a fiesta without great homemade Mexican food?  The food is what makes a party.  And what is better than mouth-watering homemade Mexican food…

I am half Mexican so I have grown up with amazing Mexican food.  I know great Mexican food when I see it.   One of my favorites is flour tortillas.  I crave a good, soft flour tortilla.  A lot of times when I’m eating Mexican food, I just eat a huge tortilla with rice and beans – I literally can’t get enough!

With my love for flour tortillas I have always wanted to make some.  And with Cinco de Mayo coming up, I thought this would be the perfect time!  So, I searched the Internet for a recipe that I liked.

I’m sure many of you know that flour tortillas normally include lard and/or shortening.  And I’m sure many of you think that these ingredients are what make a good tortilla.  But I am here to tell you that this is not so.  This recipe I made included vegetable oil instead, and believe me, these tortillas were not sub-par.  They were oh-so-good!

They were soft and flavorful and wear a-ma-zing!!  While I was baking them up, my mouth was watering, and I just wanted to take bites of every one I made.  And when I took a bite into that tortilla it was like a revelation.  How could I have not made these before?  They were unbelievably simple!  And could not have tasted better!

To make your Cinco de Mayo fiesta a hit, or even just a normal dinner night, make these tortillas!  They are incredible and everyone will be completely impressed that they were homemade!
